Château Grand Corbin-Despagne
Pioneer of Saint-Emilion, the Despagne family has been through the years and managed to impact the vineyard’s history. Owner for over 2 centuries, it had shared the same values for seven generations: love for the vineyard and respect for traditions. In 2012, the family celebrated its 200 years of presence on the Grand Corbin terroir.
Located in the North of Saint-Emilion, next to Pomerol, Château Grand Corbin Despagne benefits from two major types of soil: sandy-clay with ferruginous sandstone and old superficial clay sands. François Despagne decided to carry out a geological survey to understand the terroir’s secrets. 53 plots have been then identified, enabling a perfect plot management depending on the grape variety, of rootstock, the vine age and the terroir.
The wines reveal complex notes of red fruit and floral notes evolving with age towards more spicy and truffled notes. The violet and cherry are also present with a palate finale full of fineness and smoothness.
