New chapter for Château Petit-Village

Château Petit-Village in Pomerol
At the heart of the renowned Pomerol appellation, Château Petit-Village has been displaying its charm and winemaking excellence since the 19th century. Boasting an exceptional terroir and a prestigious winemaking heritage, this estate is the perfect embodiment of elegance and Bordeaux winemaking tradition.

A new era for Château Petit-Village

Under the name Axa Millésime since 1989, Château Petit-Village saw its destiny written under the colours of the Moulin family when it was bought out in June 2020. This change of ownership has breathed new life into the estate, while preserving the authenticity and quality it cherishes. Today, Petit-Village has a deep respect for ancestral winemaking methods, while incorporating the latest technical advances to bring out the full potential of each vintage.

On Tuesday 19 March, we had the opportunity to plunge into the enchanting world of Château Petit-Village for the inauguration of its new facilities. A magnificent panoramic terrace with a breathtaking view over the vineyards of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion; a breathtaking display of legendary names such as Pétrus, L'Évangile, Cheval Blanc and Beauregard. And a brand-new tasting room, entirely glazed, allowing visitors to sample Petit-Village's finest wines while admiring the surrounding scenery.

Anecdotally, when their son-in-law Augustin Belloy approached the Moulin family with the idea of creating a panoramic terrace, the initial reaction was mixed. But he managed to convince them by taking the whole family up to the roof of the estate, giving them an unobstructed view of the surrounding vineyards: a wow effect with a definite backlash. The terrace offers an incomparable perspective on the history and beauty of the Pomerol terroir

Exceptional tasting at Château Petit-Village

We were welcomed by passionate and dedicated people, including Augustin Belloy, co-manager; Vincent Priou, managing director; Paris Perce, communications and sales manager; and Guillaume Fredoux, the estate's technical director.

After a tour of the estate and a few discussions between the brokers and merchants present, it was time for the tasting. We started with recent vintages; 2020, 2021 and 2022, and then after the cocktail; some emblematic vintages such as Petit-Village 1989, 2001 and 2010!

Exceptional vintages from Château Petit-Village

  • 1989

At 35 years of age, this surprisingly fresh and lively vintage bears witness to the exceptional ageing potential of Château Petit-Village wines

"The nose is entirely tertiary, but the palate is quite surprising. A fine line of acidity and minerality that stays with you right through to the finish. Lots of liquorice and truffle notes. Very pleasant."

  • 2001

Produced in a year marked by favourable weather conditions, this wine reveals a remarkable balance between fruitiness and structure.

"This wine is well developed, with hints of primary fruit, but above all secondary fruit at this stage. Blackcurrant with a touch of cold tobacco. It seems slightly more evolved than it should be at this stage given that it comes from a doble magnum."

  • 2010

This vintage perfectly represents the terroir of Pomerol. A fine benchmark for the Petit-Village estate.

"Incredibly fresh, this wine has really reached its peak. There are plums, black cherries and blackberries on the nose. On the palate, it offers clean lines of acidity and primary fruit. Medium-bodied with a good length on the finish, this wine is a fine representation of the terroir."

  • 2023

To round off this lunch in style, the eagerly awaited 2023 en primeur vintage was presented.

"The nose is concentrated but well-balanced, with hints of berries. A touch of oak and persistent purity on the finish. A promising vintage."

Whether you're a lover of great wines or just curious and in search of new discoveries, a visit to Château Petit-Village promises moments of wonder and delight, where each glass tells a unique story of passion and winemaking excellence.

We would like to thank Château Petit-Village and the entire team for their invitation. We look forward to seeing you soon!
