Château Calon Ségur
Calon Segur property is one of the eldest of the Medoc. Its owner, the iconic Marquis de Segur, forged around Calon a legend. The origins of Calon go as far back as the Gallo-Roman era. Its name is derived from the term “Calones” which designated small transport ships sailing on the estuary of the Gironde. Wine production is attested from the twelfth century but it is in the eighteenth century with the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur,also owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton that the property wrote its most beautiful pages. For centuries to come, Calon became Calon Ségur. The Château was ranked Third Cru in the famous 1855 classification. From 1894 to 2012, the family Gasqueton preserved the identity the property, with sobriety and elegance. Today the Châteaux Calon Segur and Capbern Gasqueton, are in the hands of Suravenir, a subsidiary of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa chaired by Jean-Pierre Denis. The insurer is associated with Videlot group. Together they lead a major renovation, respectful of history.
