In1661, Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan acquired an estate which he named after himself. Over the next two centuries, his successors succeeded in enhancing the reputation of Château Rauzan-Ségla, which was one of the favourite wines of Thomas Jefferson.
Acquired by Chanel in 1994, this Second Cru Classé covers sixty-six hectares of vines. These are lovingly tended, with the greatest respect for the environment: sustainable methods are used, the soil is ploughed, the vineyard is managed plot-by-plot, the grapes are handpicked into small crates, then sorted twice before fermentation, etc. These are just a few of the steps taken to ensure outstanding quality.
Rauzan-Ségla has a generous bouquet with a great deal of finesse. It epitomises the internationally recognized and much appreciated qualities of the finest wines of Margaux.
